Show Non-applied Promotion Reminders on Shopping Cart page

With SHOPLINE's Non-Applied Promotion Reminder feature, you can display a reminder on the cart page that shows customers what other products they could buy in order to qualify for a promotion.  

Enabling this feature when you create a Promotion Page can help stimulate sales, as it lets customers quickly see and add to their cart the additional purchases needed to get discounts, free gifts, free shipping and other benefits. 

This article will cover the following:

 

1. SHOPLINE Admin settings

Step 1. 

In SHOPLINE Admin, go to [Promotions & Reward] > [Promotions] > [Promotion Settings].

Step 2. 

On the Promotions Settings Page, toggle on "Show non-applied promotion reminder on checkout cart". With this is turned on, reminders will be displayed in the carts of customers that have not yet met a promotion's threshold. mceclip1.png

 

*Note: 

A. If you have a Basic, Advanced, or Premium plan, or an e-Commerce or Social Commerce plan but do not have the Promotions module:

  • If the feature is turned ON:
    1. If an order has a shipping fee and is eligible for a non-applied promotion, the cart page will display reminders for non-applied Free Shipping promotions.
    2. For membership-only Free Shipping promotions, only members that are logged in will be able to see Free Shipping promotion reminders.
    3. For Free Shipping Promotions, the feature is only available for use with Entire Order & Auto Apply non-applied Free Shipping promotions. It is not available for Free Shipping Promotions for individual products, or with use of a promo code.
  • If this feature is turned OFF,  non-applied Free Shipping promotion reminders will not appear on the cart page. 

B. If you have an O2O/Cross-Border/Enterprise plan, or you have an e-Commerce or Social Commerce plan plus the Promotions module:

  • If the feature is turned ON, eligible customers will be able to see reminders for the following types of promotions on the cart page:
    1. Entire Order Free Shipping/Discount/Free Gift
    2. Product-Level Free Shipping/Discount/Free Gift
    3. Category-Level Free Shipping/Discount/Free Gift
  • Non-applied promotion reminders are supported for following types of event:
    1. Auto Apply and Affiliate Campaigns (Not eligible: Coupon) 
    2. For membership-only Promotions, only members that are logged in will be able to see non-applied promotion reminders.
    3. The system will automatically display the Entire Order/Product-Level promotion with the smallest difference needed to qualify in terms of additional spend/fewest number of items.
  • If the feature is turned OFF, non-applied Promotion reminders will not appear on the cart page.

You can check to see what plan and modules your store currently has by going to [Hello ... ] in the top right-hand corner of SHOPLINE Admin.

 

2. Non-applied Promotion Reminders by Promotion type

Below is an overview of how non-applied promotion reminders are selected and displayed for different types of promotions. 

A. Product-Level and Category-Level discounts 

The system will determine which additional purchases make it easiest (in terms of lowest spend or fewest number of items) for a customer to qualify for a promotion. For example: Whether the customer is part of the target group, whether the delivery method of their choice applies to the promotion, or whether the promotion has not reached its maximum limit of use, the system will display a non-applied promotion reminder for the promotion on the checkout page. 

Difference Calculation: 

The system will determine which additional purchases make it easiest (in terms of lowest spend or fewest number of items) for a customer to qualify for a promotion.When the purchases needed to qualify for two or more promotions are the same, then the system will choose the promotion according to the priority order.

For example:

If a promotion is an "A+B" bundle promotion, and the customer still needs to buy one product from group "A" and two products from group "B" (i.e. has to buy three products to redeem the offer) then the system will check other available promotions to see if the amount the customer needs to spend is more or less. If the difference for the other available promotion is more than three items, then the system will display a non-applied promotion reminder for the A+B promotion on the checkout page. 

*Note: Discount promotion priority order:

1. Customer Tag > Membership Tier > All Member > All Customer
2. Bundle Group > Bundle Pricing > Product-Level Discount > Category-Level discount (If there are multiple Category-Level discount promotions running at the same time, the promotion with the earliest start time will be displayed.)

 

B. Order-Level discounts

When there are no items in the shopping cart with applied discount, the system will determine whether the customer is eligible for any discounts with the following conditions: 

  • The promotion is ongoing. 
  • The customer is in the promotion's target group.
  • The payment and delivery methods selected by the customer are included in the promotion.
  • The total number of customers that have used the promotion is still below the preset limit.

Difference calculation: 

The system will determine which additional purchases make it easiest (in terms of lowest spend or fewest number of items) for a customer to qualify for a promotion.If there are several promotions where the value/number of items a customer needs to add to qualify is the same, the system will display the promotion that provides the biggest percentage discount. 

  • Main product quantity (excluding add-ons) closest to minimum quantity requirement for discount 
  • The price of item after discount closest to the amount required to qualify for discount 
  • Product excluded from all discounts in the store will not be calculated for threshold

*Note: Only one Order-Level discount can be applied to a customer's cart at a time. If a customer has met the threshold for multiple Order-Level discounts then the system will select the promotion with the biggest discount. 

 

C. Free Gift 

If the following is met, the Free Gift promotion reminder will display during checkout:

  • The promotion is ongoing. 
  • The customer is in the promotion's target group.
  • The payment and delivery methods selected by the customer are included in the promotion.
  • The total number of customers that have used the promotion is still below the preset limit.
  • The free gift item is in stock.

Difference calculation: 

  • Select Products/Categories Promotion: he system will choose the promotion that requires the fewest additional purchases (in terms of lowest spend or fewest number of items) needed for a customer to qualify. 
  • Order Level Free Gift Promotion: 
    • Main product Quantity (excluding add-ons) that are closest to discount threshold will be prioritized. 
    • Select product after discount that is closest to threshold, or if the difference is the same, the promotion with the highest degree of application will display. 

D. Free Shipping 

When there are no items in the shopping cart with applied discount, the system will determine whether the customer is eligible for any discounts with the following conditions: 

  • The promotion is ongoing. 
  • The customer is in the promotion's target group.
  • The payment and delivery methods selected by the customer are included in the promotion.
  • The total number of customers that have used the promotion is still below the preset limit.
  • The customer's cart does not currently have a Free Shipping promotion applied.

Difference Calculation: 

  • Select Products/Categories Free Shipping Promotion: The system will choose the promotion that requires the fewest additional purchases (in terms of lowest spend or fewest number of items) needed for a customer to qualify. 
  • Order Level Free Shipping Promotion: 
    • Main product Quantity (excluding add-ons) that are closest to discount threshold will be prioritized. 
    • Select product after discount that is closest to threshold, or if the difference is the same, the promotion with the highest degree of application will display. 

*Note: Free Shipping priority order: 

1. Customer Tag > Membership Tier > All Member > All Customer 

2. By date created 

 

3. Storefront cart page display

The cart page for eligible customers will display reminders for non-applied Promotions in the area highlighted in the image below:

A Non-applied Promotion Reminder will disappear if the customer adds an item/items to their cart that then qualifies them for a promotion. A tag indicating that the promotion has now been applied will appear under [Applied Promotions].
