SHOPLINE has now launched the new version of Facebook Business Extension (hereinafter FBE), with which you can integrate Facebook Business Manager, Facebook Page, ad account, Facebook Pixel, and Instagram business account together, helping you save time on product uploading to Facebook and management and set up Facebook ads easily and promote them to your target audience. Please refer to the procedure below to set up and enable the FBE.
FBE will integrate with Facebook Business Manager along with the assets, which helps manage your Facebook ads more easily. (Due to the integration restriction of the Facebook Extension, you are required to use Facebook Business Manager to connect assets, and you cannot directly select personal Pixels and ad accounts. Please refer to the current content provided by Facebook). Before you enable FBE, if you have your own Facebook Business Manager account, confirm whether you have already owned the assets permission. If you haven't created a Facebook Business Manager, you can follow the steps below and create the new assets.
To maintain and secure the authenticity of Facebook accounts, Facebook will review and verify personal accounts and assets as of 2020. It is recommended that you submit your account review request through the Facebook official channel for a verified badge and install FBE with your verified Facebook account and assets to ensure that Facebook won't suspend your account and assets during the review.
SHOPLINE store only provides the feature of connecting the Facebook Extension. It does not have the review permission of any Facebook assets. The installation process is subject to the actual content on Facebook. If you have questions regarding assets and permissions, please contact Facebook for confirmation. Please also read the Notes carefully before the operation. SHOPLINE does not have the responsibility for the access permission and review of Facebook asset integration.
*Notes:
- If you have installed the previous version of the FBE (i.e. your pixel editing button in SHOPLINE Admin “Tracker Setting” is grayed out), please pay attention to the "Important Notes" in this article before installation.
- The Extension will integrate the assets of the Facebook account logged in on your browser. The assets selectable are subjected to the actual content on Facebook.
If you want to enable Facebook Shop or Instagram shopping through the Extension, please refer to this article.

- People in Business Settings: Make sure your Facebook account has admin access. (Please refer to Facebook Official Instruction)
- Pages: Make sure your Facebook account is on the list of "People" having admin access to Pages (Please refer to Facebook Official Instruction) and the "Owner" of the Page has to be the admin of the selected FBE for over 7 days.
- Ad Accounts: Make sure your Facebook account is on the list of "People" having admin access to the ad account (Please refer to Facebook Official Instruction) and the account has to be from your FBE.
- Catalog: Make sure your Facebook account is on the list of "People" having admin access to the catalog (Please refer to Facebook Official Instruction) and it is connected to the Page you selected with the same access permission.
- Pixels: Make sure your Facebook account is listed amount people having admin access for Pixels and the Pixel is created from the FBE (Please refer to Facebook Official Instruction).
*Note: Before you install FBE, please check the review status of your assets under your Business Manager. If they have been disabled by Facebook, you could pledge a review of your accounts and assets, and integrate your assets to the FBE after passing the review.
The permission for integrating the Extension to your assets is relatively strict. It is necessary to select the account and Pixels originated from the FBE. If you encounter problems regarding asset permissions, please contact Facebook directly for further confirmation. It is also recommended that you integrate FBE with assets managed by your own company. If you cooperate with external advertisers, to avoid potential conflicts in property transfer, please authorize the access rights to them separately.

*Note: You will also be directed to the "Channel Integration" page by clicking Install&Manage settings next to the "Facebook Business Extension (FBE)" section in [Marketing & Tracker] > [Marketing].

🔔 Before selecting assets, please be noted:
- When selecting a catalog, FBE may show the option "Products for XXX personal catalog". Since this catalog is your personal asset, you will not be able to view it at Facebook Catalog Manager. We suggest that you select another catalog or create a new catalog instead of using the personal one for FBE. It would help you manage your assets more easily. In addition, since the selected catalog will be linked to the store's product data, please do not select the manually-created catalog in your Catalog Manager so as to avoid replacing the manually-created product data source. You can choose to create a new catalog asset to synchronize your product information.
- When selecting Page, please check the Facebook account you logged in which has admin access to Facebook Page. After choosing the Page and completing the FBE integration, the Page will be owned by the Business Manager you selected in FBE.
- If any notice is shown in red when you click "Continue", please follow the instructions and change or amend the newly created asset name.

5. Important notes
i. Will the Facebook Pixel be replaced after being integrated with FBE?
If you upgrade your FBE, your Pixel will be installed again and replace the one installed by the previous version of FBE. Please be aware that your installed Pixel is the one linked to your ad account. If you want to install the other Pixel, please contact the Online Merchant Success Team for assistance.
ii. How do I edit/change the Pixel installed by Facebook Business Extension?
If you install the Pixel by FBE, Pixel will be installed in the [Tracker Setting] in your Admin panel automatically. If you want to edit or change your Pixel or the other assets, you could click the Edit Assets button beside FBE and choose the Pixel or the assets in the pop-up window.
*Note: Please make sure that your installed Pixel is linked to your Facebook ad account to track your data and conversion events in your store.
iii. Does FBE support all merchants?
Yes. This feature supports all plans for Facebook Manager, Facebook Page, ad account, and Facebook Pixel to synchronize the Facebook catalog, but there are different limitations on product synchronization:
- Premium Plan or above: Support synchronization for all products
- Basic/ Advanced Plan: Support 10 latest added products created in the Featured Category, if there is no product in the Featured Category, the system will synchronize the 10 latest added products.
- e-Commerce and Social Commerce annual plan: Support synchronization for all products
iv. How do I select my Pixel /Facebook Page/ ad account during installation?
If you wish to select your own assets in FBE as required by Facebook, please make sure that your Facebook personal account has been assigned as Admin in the Business Manager and Facebook page for more than 7 days. Feel free to refer to the guide on Facebook to assign your assets including Pixel, Facebook page, and ad account to your Business Manager, your personal account is in the list of other "people" so that you can select them during installation.
v. Why my product catalog is not working after the installment?
Once you've installed FBE, the system will automatically upload your products and synchronize them, and Facebook will review your products during the progress, which will take 1 business day to complete. At the same time, you can go to Catalog Manager to observe the upload status, if the products cannot be uploaded successfully over 48 hours, please contact the Online Merchant Success Team for further checking.
vi. Why can't I select the Page I want during installation?
The Facebook Extension will display the corresponding assets according to the Facebook personal account you logged in to your browser. If you cannot select a Page, it may be that you do not have the "admin" permission of the Page and of its FBE, or you did not select the FBE that is with the Page. Therefore, before installation, please confirm the access permissions and the options to be selected.
vii. May I use my personal catalog in the FBE install process?
When selecting a catalog, FBE may show the option "Products for XXX personal catalog". Since this catalog is your personal asset, you will not be able to view it at Facebook Catalog Manager. It is recommended that you select another catalog or create a new catalog instead of using the personal one for FBE. It would help you manage your assets more easily.
viii. What event will the Pixel install by the Facebook Business Extension track?
When you have installed the FBE, your selected Pixel will be installed in the tracking setting and will track these events in the below chart according to the customers' behavior (trigger).
If you want to track the extra events, you could add the event codes by GTM or the event setup tool on Facebook. Please make sure that you manage and check the extra codes frequently and also avoid adding duplicate events on your shop pages to affect the data collection from your Pixel.
ix. Why do personnel from "SHOPLINE Extension System User (FBE)" appear after installing the Extension?
The Extension will connect your SHOPLINE store assets with the Facebook backend. During operation, the Extension will automatically create a SHOPLINE system application in your FBE for connection and synchronization. The application will appear as a name only. SHOPLINE does not have access to operate your company's Facebook assets, nor view or edit your assets. Please do not remove this application and personnel to avoid abnormality when the Extension is synchronized and updated.
x. What items will the catalog synchronize?
The Facebook-integrated catalog will synchronize products publicly published in the store (in terms of units, not stores). The catalog will be updated about every 6-12 hours while the Extension is connected, and being fetched to the Facebook backend according to the preset daily schedule. (The schedule is adjustable).
If you edit the products in the Admin, your catalog and Facebook product data will not be updated immediately. Please review the upload schedule in Facebook Catalog/ Business Manager.
In addition, the images of the catalog will upload the first image of the main product. If there is an image for variants, the variant image will be uploaded instead. The rules for uploading images cannot be changed.
xi. My company has cooperated with third-party advertisers. Should I ask them to install the Extension?
The permission for integrating the Extension to your assets is relatively strict. It is required to select the account and Pixels originated from the FBE. It is recommended that the Extensions and assets that you integrate are managed by the Facebook account that is monitored internally by the company.
This can retain the intactness of management rights of your assets in the future, and prevent disputes when transferring data and access permissions.
If the advertiser needs to use the assets, as a suggestion, you can authorize the access rights of your asset to them in the FBE setting, or add them to the "People" list.
xii. Why is my product rejected by Facebook? How can I lodge an appeal?
After the product is synchronized to the Facebook backend, Facebook will review it through robots and humans. If your product is determined by Facebook to violate the shopping and business policies, it will be rejected by Facebook. You can find the reasons for rejection in the Catalog/Business Manager. If you think that the product has been misjudged and does not violate the policy, you can also reply directly for an appeal. The results of the appeal are subjected to Facebook.
6. Edit & cancel the linkage of Facebook Business Extension
Please be reminded that if you see a message indicating authorization expiry, please click on the Basic Settings tab below. Under the "Business Management Platform Account" section, click on Manage Settings > Edit Assets at the bottom right, and re-select the assets previously integrated for reauthorization. This will update the Extension authorization and ensure that the ad assets' status is up to date. Please be aware that if the Extension authorization expires, click on "Edit Assets" directly. Do not remove the extension to prevent related assets from being unable to integrate smoothly.
Below is the image that shows authorization expiry message:
If you would like to unlink the current Facebook account, you can proceed to SHOPLINE Admin > [Channel Integration] > [Facebook]. Under the "The Connected Facebook Account" section, click Unlink the current account.
When the linkage is cancelled, the function will be affected. So, please pay attention to the following points before unlinking the Extension:
- Please note that you have to wait for 5 to 10 seconds until the notification shows up and the button turns back to "Install Plug-in”; then conduct further actions. Any immediate action or refreshing the page may cause the Extension to malfunction.
- The Pixels installed through the Extension will be uninstalled and removed from the "Tracker Settings" in Admin, and the tracking will cease.
- The catalog uploaded through the Extension will stop updating automatically. If you have turned on the function of "Synchronize Products to Fan Page Store," the product information on the Fan Page Store will also stop updating automatically.
7. Update Permission Button - Conversions API
If you have installed FBE and seen the "Update Permission" button beside, this button and status will NOT affect your FBE and catalog.
If you see this button, please log in to Facebook with your Business Manager admin account and click the button to authorize the Conversions API of Pixel function. Upon authorization, your FBE Pixel will track data through API. Conversions API would help you collect the data in your shop more accurately and analyze the outcome of your ad.
Benefits of Conversions API:
- Improve accuracy of tracking events: When using Conversions API, you don't have to worry about events getting lost because of problems such as a browser crash or an ad blocker.
- Measure customer actions in more ways: Conversions API supports new Pixel tracking events: OrderCompleted, OrderCanceled. It gives you visibility into your customer's full journey and can also optimize your business campaigns.
Further, Conversions API will send these events through the server below:
- View Content(View product pages)
- Add to Cart(Add products to cart)
- Purchase(arrive on order thanks page”/confirm”)
- Lead(arrive on “/sign_up_confirmation” & ”/confirmation” page )
- Order Completed(Order status “completed”)
- Order Canceled(Order status” Canceled”)
🔔 Reminder: Only pixels that have been updated with permissions through the Meta Business Suite will have access to the Conversions API feature. Please pay attention before proceeding. If you have other pixels that need to utilize the conversion API, please contact the Online Merchant Success Team.
