In order to minimize the chance that users are using an email that is not their email address to make orders, you can turn on the toggle in Admin > Customer Settings which will send email to users for verification.
This article will cover the following:

⚠️ Before you start, please be reminded:
To ensure data security, the system will automatically log out customers after 24 hours of inactivity following login. Inactivity is defined as no actions requiring an internet connection, such as reloading the page, searching for products, or submitting information.
1. Email registration/ verification settings
Step 1. Confirm your plan
At the upper right corner of the store backstage, go to "Hello, OOO" > "My Subscription & Billing" to view the store's plans and modules.
- Under the Paid Subscription, there are Plans and Modules. Please check if your store has the e-Commerce plan. If so, please skip to Step 2.
- If you are using the Basic, Advanced, Premium, O2O, Enterprise, or Cross Border plan (as shown below). Please confirm whether your store is using the Premium, O2O or Enterprise plan.
- If your store meets the requirements above, please go to the SHOPLINE Admin > [Apps] > [Apps Store] in the left menu to install the features.
🔔 If you want to send verification emails to users, you can switch on the toggle for "Send Verification Email When Register." Merchants can consider switching on the toggle for "Verification is required before login." If the toggle for "Verification is required before login" is turned OFF, customers are not required to complete the verification for signing in and placing orders. Or else, verification is required for logging in and placing orders.
Step 2. Sign-up settings
In SHOPLINE Admin, go to [Settings] > [Customer Settings] > Sign up method and select the method you want to apply to your store.
- Email only
- Both Email & Mobile number
A. Email only
The system will guide existing members who have signed up with mobile numbers to fill in the email when logging in next time.
*Note: If you have enabled email verification, the system will automatically send a verification email when the existing member fills in the email address. This will not affect their login process.
B. Sign up with email and mobile number
The system will guide existing members who have signed up via email / mobile number to fill in the mobile number/ email when logging in next time.
*Remarks:
- If you have enabled email verification, the system will automatically send a verification email when the existing member fills in the email address. This will not affect their login process.
- If you have enabled mobile phone verification when existing members enter the email address, they must complete the verification first to log in.

*Notes:
- This feature currently does not support directing customers registered via Social Commerce and Shopper App to complete membership information.
- If you have enabled the verification feature, the existing members are required to complete the verification when filling in their email / mobile phone number.

If the "Mandatory member profile completion" feature is enabled, the system will redirect existing members to the profile completion window during login, and skipping this step will not be available.
The left image shows the interface before the feature is eneabled, where members can click "Skip". The right image shows the interface after the feature is enabled, with no "Skip" available.

If you enable the mobile number sign up method, a window will pop up to suggest you enable the Google reCAPTCHA verification settings. Please note that reCAPTCHA’s free usage is limited. If usage exceeds the free quota and billing is not enabled, it may cause customer login or checkout issues. For more information, please refer to this FAQ.
- If you have activated the "Google reCAPTCHA" validation settings, customers will be verified during registration for potential bot risk according to the "Security Preference" settings you have configured in the Google reCAPTCHA admin. If the risk level is too high, customers must pass a visual verification to receive a text message. You can adjust the "Security Preference" settings on your own to reduce the proportion of customers encountering visual verification.
- If you haven't activated the "Google reCAPTCHA" validation settings, customers will go through the Google reCAPTCHA set up uniformly by SHOPLINE during registration. If a customer's risk level exceeds the "Security Preference" settings configured by SHOPLINE, they must pass a manual visual verification to receive a text message.
If you haven't integrated reCAPTCHA, customers at high risk of being bots will encounter an SMS verification process when they click the "Next" button, and they will see a visual verification prompt that says "I am not a robot" (as shown in the image above).
Step 3. Verification settings
In SHOPLINE Admin, go to [Settings] > [Customer Settings] > Verification method to set up whether to send the verification email.
*Note: If you have enabled "Send email verification, verification required before login," besides new sign-ups, the system will automatically send a verification email when the existing member changes their email addresses.
Scenario 2. Email verification is required before login
Step 1
Users sign up with email.
Step 2
The system will redirect the customer to the Registration Complete page. The customer will receive the verification email and has to verify within 24 hours. If users did not receive the email, they can resend one on this page.
Step 3
When the customer clicks on the verification button in the email, the account is verified and the status is changed to "Verified" in the Member Centre and customer details in the Admin.
2. Customer registration process
i. Sign up with email only
If you select "Email only" for the sign-up method, existing members who have registered will not be affected. For members with blank emails, the system will guide them to fill in their emails when they sign in next time.
Step 1
Customers can only enter their emails to sign up. They can check whether to receive store updates and promotions and have to agree to the store's Privacy Policy and Terms of User. Click Next to continue.
*Note: If the email entered by the customer has been registered, the system will show a reminder to guide customers.
Step 2
Enter the personal information required for registration, and click Sign me up! to complete the registration.
*Note: If your store has enabled the "Send email verification, verification required before login" feature, customers have to continue with Step 3.
Step 3
If you have enabled the "Send email verification, verification required before login" feature, customers have to complete email verification for registration.
*Note: If the customer changes the email address in Member Centre, the new verification email will be sent to the new email. Customers have to complete the verification again to place orders with the new email.
ii. Sign up with both email & mobile number
If you select "Both Email & Mobile number" for the sign-up method, existing members who have registered will not be affected. For members with blank mobile numbers or emails, the system will guide them to complete their member profile when they sign in next time.
Step 1
Customers have to enter their emails and mobile numbers to sign up, which both can be used for signing in in the future. They can check whether to receive store updates and promotions and have to agree to the store's Privacy Policy and Terms of User. Click Next to continue.
*Note: If the email entered by the customer has been registered, the system will show a reminder to guide customers.
Step 2
If you have enabled the "Send mobile phone verification" feature, the customer will be asked to complete the verification first. Click Next to move on to the next step.
*Notes:
- It takes 60 seconds to resent the verification message and the verification code cannot be sent more than 3 times within an hour.
- An SMS fee will be incurred if you send text messages for mobile phone verification. Please see SMS Pricing for details.
Step 3
Enter the personal information required for registration, and click Sign me up! to complete the registration.
*Note: If you have enabled "Send email verification, verification required before login," customers have to proceed to Step 4 to complete registration.
Step 4
If you have enabled "Send email verification, verification required before login," customers have to verify their email address to complete registration.
*Remark: To change the background, text, and button color of the sign-up/ sign-in page, please refer to SHOPLINE Page Builder (New).
3. Other scenarios that require email verification
- For Bulk Import/Register through Checkout
A reset password email is used as email verification, so the verification status will be updated to "Verified" after resetting the password.
- For Mobile/Quick Sign Up
Email verification status is unverified until adding the email address for the account & going through the verification process.
- For Facebook Sign Up
The verification status is "Verified" when signing up with Facebook.
