When your online store has many articles, you can create categories for similar ones to make searching quicker and more efficient. This also helps customers easily find articles that interest them, enhancing their browsing experience and improving operational efficiency.
⚠️ Before you start, please note that:
- For merchants who use the layout engine, please refer to Blog Restructure (in Chinese) to adjust your codes. You can contact our Online Merchant Success Team for more information.
- Adding/editing/deleting an article category will be updated within 24 hours after such change is saved.

1. Create article category
Step 1
In the SHOPLINE Admin, go to [Online Store Design] > [Blog] and click Manage Category. If you would like to learn more about adding blog articles, please refer to Blog Article (New).
Step 2
After entering the article category page, click Add category.
*Note: You can add up to 10 article categories.
Step 3
Fill in the category information and SEO settings. The following is the introduction to each field:
Category
i. Category name
This category name defaults to the H1 heading.
ii. Banner
The banner is displayed on the top of the article category and supports JPG and PNG images.
iii. Image Alt Tag (displayed after the banner is uploaded)
The Image ALT Tag is one line describing the banner for search engine recognition.
SEO Setting
i. Title
The title supports a maximum of 55 characters.
ii. Description
The description supports a maximum of 230 characters.
iii. Social Preview
The social preview image is displayed in the Admin article list and storefront article preview, as well as when you share the link on social media. It supports JPG or PNG formats. Please use the recommended image size on social media platforms.
iv. Keywords
The maximum limit is 160 characters. It is recommended that you set the most relevant 3-5 groups of keywords, separated by commas. The keyword field is for search engine recognition only. Customers will not see them in search results or on storefronts.
v. SEO-Friendly URL
The SEO-Friendly URL appears at the end of the article's URL. For better search engine recognition, it is recommended that you use English letters or numbers. If you use Chinese characters, they will be automatically encoded.
Step 4
Once all fields are filled in with the correct information, click Save to create the category.
2. Edit/delete article category
To edit or delete an article category, please go to Admin > [Online Store Design] > [Blog] and click Manage Category. This section will cover the following three parts:
Edit category
Step 1
After entering the article category page, find the category you want to edit and click Edit on the right.
Step 2
Once completed, please click Save. The changes will be updated within 24 hours after the settings are saved.
Edit category order
After entering the article category page, drag the icon on the left to the desired order and release the cursor. The edit is completed when an "Updated" notification appears.
*Note: The article category order here will be the order displayed on the storefront.
Delete category
Step 1
After entering the article category page, click open the edit list, and click Delete.
Step 2
The system will display a pop-up window showing that X articles are in this category. You must first check the "I understand deleted items cannot be restored, and I am sure I want to delete it!" option, then you can click Delete.
*Notes: After deleting,
- The articles originally belonging to this category will have their "Category" field removed and changed to a blank value.
- The website of this category will be invalid, displaying a 404 Page NOT Found error.
3. Blog category
Step 1
In the SHOPLINE Admin, go to [Online Store Design] > [Blog]. Find the article you want to edit and click Edit.
Step 2
After entering the article editing page, click open the "Category" drop-down list, and select an article category for this article.
Step 3
Click Save, and wait for an "Updated" notification to appear. You will also be redirected to the blog article list page.
Step 4
On the blog article list page, you can view all categories for all articles in the "Category" fields.
*Note: If the "Category" field is empty, this means the article has not been categorized yet.
You can also click open the "All categories" drop-down list and select a category. The system will show all articles in the category.
*Note: When using the search function, it supports a maximum of one title keyword + one category.
4. Article category storefront display
The homepage of your online store blog will display different layout designs according to the storefront template you choose.
*Notes:
- The order of categories reflects the settings in the Admin.
- If the category does not contain any published blog articles, it will not be displayed on the storefront.
- Theme template Sangria currently does not support displaying article categories.

Desktop version

The image below is a demonstration using the theme template Ultra Chic. Tap Category to view all categories.
Click any category title to enter the category page. The category page contains the following parts:
- Category name: The category name is displayed in the breadcrumb and at the top of the first blog article.
- Banner: The banner is displayed at the top of the page.
- Blog article: The articles under the category. Articles are displayed in the order of their creation time, from the newest to the oldest by default.
5. Notes
- The new Blog feature supports the following storefront theme templates. Please note that full access to the feature may not be available if you're using other templates.
- Ultra Chic
- Kingsman
- Varm
- Philia
- Dusk
- Skya
- Sangria (Displaying article category on the storefront is currently not available.)

- Due to compatibility differences after the version update, the Blog text editor may affect the formatting of your existing articles. Please review the content for any issues before saving the article.
- A store administrator with only the "View" permission cannot add/ edit/ delete a blog article or category. To change the permission for the administrator, please go to [Settings] > [Permission & Security].
