Merchants can use SHOPLINE's "Set product attributes" feature to classify product items into corresponding attributes like "room temperature," "refrigerated," "frozen," etc. It is one of the indispensable workflows for enabling the "Multiple Product Attributes for Checkout" feature.

This article will cover the following:

1. Edit product attribute

After enabling the "Multiple Product Attributes for Checkout" feature, you can go to the SHOPLINE Admin > [Products & Categories] > [Products] and click Add or Edit to set the product's attribute.

*Notes:

  • The first product attribute is the system default value. All products with no attribute set will fall into this category.
  • "(unnamed)" fields are blank fields not filled in and will not appear on the checkout page. To modify the names please refer to the article [Coming Soon] Multi-Attribute Products Order Checkout.

2. Product attribute hierarchy

The hierarchical rules of product attributes are related to the hierarchical order you set. Please refer to this article to learn more about the hierarchical order.

1. Product types that can set attributes

  • General products
Product attributes can be set. Products will be separated by attributes during checkout.

  • Product sets
Attributes can be set for all the products in the product set. Even if the child products in the set have existing attributes, they will go to the cart of the product set's attribute.
    For example,
Set 1 is a product set of a top and a pair of shorts.
    The attribute of Set 1 is A;
the attribute of the top is B; and
the attribute of the pair of shorts is C.

Set 1 goes to the cart of attribute A when being checked out.
  • Subscription products
Product attributes can be set. Products will be separated by attributes during checkout.

2. Product type that cannot set attribute

  • Add-ons
    A. Add-on items of main products
They go to the cart of the main product's attribute.

    B. Add-on items for shopping carts
Even if the add-on item has existing attributes, it goes to the cart of the product attribute that ranks first
    For example
The product attribute hierarchy of the store is A - B - C.

The existing attribute of the top is B,
but since there is an add-on item in the shopping cart,

the top goes to the cart of the first-ranked product attribute (A)
when checking out products with multi-attributes.
  • Free gifts

    A. Promotions, bundle promotions
    (Order-level/ Product-level / Category-level / A+B / Buy X Get Y)
Free gifts for the promotions above follow the hierarchy that meets the purchase condition and the product attribute that ranks first.

    For example
The product attribute hierarchy of the store is A - B - C.

    chart.png

    Example 1
Buying T-shirt + Polo shirt can get a pair of socks for free.
Since the T-shirt's attribute is ranked first,
the pair of socks go to cart of attribute A.

    Example 2

Buying Polo shirt + Trousers can get a mystery gift.
Since the Polo shirt's attribute is ranked first,
the mystery gift goes to the cart of attribute B.

    Example 3
Buying Polo shirt + Trousers can get another pair of trousers.
Since the Polo shirt's attribute is ranked first,
the mystery gift goes to the cart of attribute B.

    B. Other promotions

For other promotion types not mentioned in this article, the hierarchy is based on the product attribute that ranks first

  • Other products
For other product types not mentioned in this article, the hierarchy is based on the product attribute that ranks first
