"Alt tag" is also known as "alt attribute" or "alt description" is an alternative text for an image, describing the content of the image in one sentence. It is used to help search engines read the content of images. Because search engines cannot interpret images and only understand text, you will need text to explain the content of the image to search engines, which can help improve the SEO of your store.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which simply means optimizing search results. The function of SEO makes it easier for your customers to find your products when searching for products, increasing the exposure of the store and bringing more sales.
This article will introduce you to the locations where the store supports the alt tag:
1. Setting Steps
Step 1. Confirm your plan for the store and start using it
On the upper right corner of the store backstage, go to [Hello, OOO] > [My Subscription & Billing] to view the store's plans and modules.
- If you see the screen below, there are "Paid" and "Module" in the "Plan Subscription" section. Please confirm whether your store has an "e-Commerce" plan. If so, you can go to step 2 to set it up.
- If you see the screen below, the "Plan" in the "Current Plan" is Basic, Advanced, Premium, O2O, or Enterprise. Please confirm whether your store has a "Advanced/Premium/O2O/Enterprise".
If so, please go to [App] > [App Store] in the left menu to install the features.
Step 2. Set up image alt tag
Go to a different page below to set up the image alt tag.
2. Product Images
On the "Products" page, there are a total of 4 places where you can add alt attributes to images, namely the Product Photos (Main), Additional Product Photos, Variant Images, and Product Description Images.
A. Product Photos (Main)
Go to [Products] > [Edit] > [Images] and upload an image, and then you will see an "ALT" button. Click it to edit the image's alt tag.
B. Additional Product Photos
Go to [Products] > [Edit] > [Info] and upload an image, and then you will see an "ALT" button. Click it to edit image's alt tag.
C. Variant Images
Go to [Products] > [Edit page] > [Variations] and click the variation photo below to upload an image, and then you will see an "ALT" button. Click it to edit the image's alt tag.

D. Product Description Images
Go to [Products] > [Edit] > [Info] > [Product Description] and switch on the "Edit Image Alt Tag" toggle to set the alt attributes for your product description images and enter text describing the content of the images.
3. Add-ons item
Into Add-ons item edit page > "Add-on item Info" tab, and upload an image then you will see an "ALT" button. Click the button to edit the image alt tag.
Categories Banner
Into Categories edit page > "Categories Banner" section, and upload an image then you will see an "ALT" button. Click button to edit image alt tag.
Advanced pages and Express Checkout Pages
i. Advance Page (old version) & Express Checkout Page
*If your store which is using "basic plan" also has this function. Can set image alt tag in Advanced Pages and Express Checkout Pages.
To customize your image alt tag in Advanced Pages and Express Checkout Pages, you could first insert your image file by drag-and-drop elements. When you click the image inserted, there will be a menu for editing. You could provide the image alt tag in the content part.
ii. SHOP Builder Page
In a SHOP Builder Page, if you upload an image in a widget, you can also configure Alt attribute for the image in the settings. Take the "Image with Text" widget for example. After you add an Image with Text widget, click Image to add an image, and edit the image's Alt attribute in the field down below.
