For special offers, limited-edition products, or other special products, you can set a product purchase limit to restrict the quantity customers can buy in a single order, giving more customers a chance to purchase these products. Once a purchase limit is set, customers won't be able to check out if the quantity of the product in a single order exceeds the limit.
1. How to set up purchase limits
You can enable "Purchase Limit Settings" on the product edit page and enter the maximum purchase quantity per order. Follow the steps below:
Step 1. Go to the product page
Go to SHOPLINE Admin > [Products & Categories] > [Products], find the product in the product list, and click Edit.
Step 2. Enable "Purchase Limit Settings" and enter the limit
On the product edit page, select the "Settings" tab and switch on the toggle for "Purchase Limit Settings". Enter a number in the "Maximum Purchase Quantity" field and click Update to save your changes.
*Note: You can only enter a number between 1 and 99.
Step 3. Check the settings on the storefront
After “Purchase Limit Settings” is enabled, if a customer adds more than the maximum purchase quantity, a message will appear to inform them of the limit. It appears on the following pages:
Product detail page
"Instant Add to Cart" pop-up window
*Note: If you have enabled the "Instant Add to Cart" feature, this pop-up window will only appear for products with multiple variations.
Cart on the checkout page
Customers can complete checkout after adjusting the quantity to within the maximum purchase quantity.
2. Notes
- The purchase limit only applies to the quantity in a single order. Customers can buy the same product again by placing a new order, up to the limit. Each new order requires separate payment of delivery fees and other additional charges.
- If a product has multiple variants, the "Maximum Purchase Quantity" applies to the total quantity of all variants combined.
- Example: A product has three variants (A, B, and C), and the "Maximum Purchase Quantity" is set to 3.
- Can be checked out: A, ABC, AAB, CCC (3 or fewer in total)
- Cannot be checked out: AAAA, ABCC, BBBC (more than 3 in total)
- Example: A product has three variants (A, B, and C), and the "Maximum Purchase Quantity" is set to 3.
- We recommend stating the purchase limit in the product name or product description. This way, customers will know the limit before adding the product to their cart.
