Event Tracker Settings | Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

Google Analytics 4 can collect event-based data from both your website and app at the same time. It also tracks cross-domain websites more accurately and identifies website visitors, which helps you analyze unfamiliar customers and operate CRM management. That's why SHOPLINE has launched the "Google Analytics 4 Tracking Code Setup" feature.

⚠️ Before you begin, please note:

  • The Basic plan does not support the "Google Analytics 4 Tracking Code Setup" feature.
  • GA (GA3) was discontinued by Google on 1 July 2023. Based on our internal data transmission and reception recommendations, please avoid using GA (GA3) and GA4 at the same time. If you still need to observe data with GA (GA3), please embed it via Google Tag Manager (GTM).
  • If you run into issues while connecting or using Google Analytics 4 (GA4), please refer to: Troubleshooting Guide | Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

In this article, you'll find:

6. Data collection

Choose Web to set up data collection.

Enter your storefront's URL (Website URL) and Stream name, then click Create & continue.

On the right side of the screen, you will see "Web stream details". Please copy the "MEASUREMENT ID".

⚠️ Note: The tracking code of the new GA4 starts with "G," not "UA."

What's the difference between stream ID and
measurement ID?

  • The stream ID is the unique identifier for the data stream from which user activity originates. You can add stream IDs to your events to send data to certain data streams. Please refer to this article for more information.
  • A Measurement ID is an identifier (e.g., G-12345) for a web data stream. You can use the Measurement ID to send data to a specific web data stream. Please refer to this article for more information.

Step 3. SHOPLINE Admin setup

Upon copying the Measurement ID, return to SHOPLINE Admin > [Marketing & Tracker] > [Tracker Settings] and click Google Analytics 4.

Fill in the copied Measurement ID in the blank and click Save to complete the setup.

After the GA4 tracking code has been stored, a green tick will appear in the GA4 box on the "Tracker Settings" page.

To edit or delete the GA4 tracking code, please scroll down to the bottom of the "Tracking Settings" page and click Edit or the "bin" icon.

*Note: Google Analytics starts collecting data after the setup is completed, and the data will not be updated immediately. It is conservatively estimated that it will take about 24-48 hours for the data to be shown in Google Analytics.

Step 4. Setup completed

After completing the setup, click Next on the "Start collecting data" page, and it will show that you have successfully created your account and property. Note that data collection may take up to 48 hours to get started.

2. What events are sent after connecting?

SHOPLINE has natively integrated GA4's standard e-commerce events. Once GA4 is connected to SHOPLINE, the system automatically starts collecting key data throughout the sales process.
