To address the regulatory differences in various countries/regions, SHOPLINE introduces "Auto-check account creation and marketing consent options at checkout" -- a brand new feature for merchants to customize the default checked options on the checkout page. This way, merchants can run their stores with greater flexibility and better operation.
This article will cover the following:
1. Set checkboxes
On the checkout page, you can customize the default checked options for the membership/benefits in your store. The following descriptions are listed by country/region.
*Notes:
- If the Feature "Checkout without Email" is enabled for the online store, customers who haven't provided email addresses, or left the field blank, cannot become members. Customers who provided their email addresses can see the default checked options.
- If your online store has previously installed the "Pretick accept marketing" app, this feature will replace the previous app settings once it is launched. The system will display the default checked options as per the following table.

2. Related legal explanations
According to TW/HK regulatory guidelines regarding "mandate", the roles of SHOPLINE and merchants should be:
Taiwan | Hong Kong | |
SHOPLINE | Mandatory | Processor |
Merchant | Principal | Controller |
SHOPLINE provides diverse services to merchants, assisting them in establishing and operating online stores while collecting, processing, and using the personal data of the purchasers (online store customers). The personal data of the purchasers (online store customers) primarily serves the merchants to facilitate online shopping transactions. During the process of collecting, processing, and using personal data, merchants are entitled to decide:
- Collection method (through websites/ Google Forms, or other methods)
- Information to be collected (Name / Gender / Birthday or other information )
- How to use data (for reconciliation, shipping, or other purposes)
Therefore, SHOPLINE acts as a trusted mandatory/processor providing diverse services and does not participate in, interfere with, or decide any matters related to the merchant's online store. Merchants have the freedom to choose when, where, and how to use the services. It is recommended that you thoroughly confirm the relevant regulations of your store's operating location before setting the checkbox options.
