- You cannot use Octipus for payment if the product price has 2 decimal places. You can go to the SHOPLINE Admin > [Settings] > [Checkout] and switch on the toggle for "Apply Rounding Mechanism to Checkout Total Amount."
4. Checkout with multi-payment options
*This feature is only available for merchants using the POS app iOS v.1.50.0 or Android v1.28.0, and above.
During checkout, merchants can provide customers with a combination of SHOPLINE Payments options and general payment options in one order. You can choose the following payment combinations:
- 1 SHOPLINE Payments option+ 1 ~ 4 general payment options (5 payment options in total)
- 1 ~ 5 general payment options (5 payment options in total)
Step 1. Choose the first payment option
Tap any payment option. If you choose a SHOPLINE Payments option, you can only add general payment options afterwards. The following is an example of choosing SHOPLINE Payment credit card as the first payment option.
Step 2. Edit amount payable
Tap the amount to edit the amount payable for the first payment option. When it is lower than the total amount payable for the order, there will be a "Add Payment" box for you to add the second payment option or more.
1. Notes on editing the amount payable for SHOPLINE Payments options
- The amount payable cannot be less than 0 HKD.
- The amount payable cannot be greater than the final order amount (as change is not available).
- The amount payable cannot be less than the minimum checkout amount (if any).
- If Octopus is chosen as the first payment option, the amount cannot be greater than 3,000 HKD.
2. Notes on editing the amount payable for general payment options
- The amount cannot be less than 0 HKD.
- The edited amount can be greater than the final order amount (as change is available).
Step 3. Add the second (or more) payment options
Tap Add Payment to add other payment options. If you have chosen a SHOPLINE Payments option, there are only general payment options available in the selecting window.
After adding the payment option, you can edit the amount payable again if needed, and add other available payment options. You can add up to 5 payment options.
*Note: If you choose a general payment option, you can set the amount payable to be greater than the final order amount. The amount of change will be listed below.
Step 4. Preorder/checkout
Tap Preorder or Checkout and wait for the customer to pay. You can also tap View Payment Status down below to see the final result of each payment option for this order.
For SHOPLINE Payments options, the status can be "Unpaid/Payment failed/Payment successful" according to the final result. For general payment options, the status will be "Payment successful" by default. Merchants must confirm the final payment results themselves.
Step 5. Payment results
1. Payment successful
When the payment is successful, the POS app will list all of the payment options for this transaction. The amount of change will also be listed if there is any. Tap OK after confirmation, and you will be redirected to the checkout page.
2. Payment failed
If there is any failed payment, the POS app will list the failed ones and the reasons. You can tap Cancel payment or Reinitiate payment.
3. Payment timeout
Payment timeout might happen due to an unstable internet connection. If the customer hasn't paid, you can wait for 150 seconds to check the final payment results. If the customer has paid, you will have to wait for 3 hours for the final payment results. It is suggested to go to the "Orders" tab to refresh the order to retrieve the final payment result. If unsuccessful, you can cancel the said order and place a new one.
*Notes:
- When reinitiating payment for a failed mult-payment order, the app will only reinitiate the failed SHOPLINE Payments option with the same payment option.
- As an internet connection is needed when using SHOPLINE Payments, please ensure a stable connection during checkout. Should disconnection happen, an error notification will pop up. Tap OK. If the order is created, you will be redirected to the "Orders" page. If the order is not created, you will be redirected to the "Checkout" page.
- If your POS app has not yet been updated to iOS v1.50.0/Android v1.28.0 or above, you will not be able to access transactions with multi-payment options. Please update your POS app first.
5. Cancel payment/order during the payment process
Unpaid orders or orders with failed payments can be cancelled from the POS app. When the payment is cancelled, the original order will not be cancelled. You can go to the "Orders" tab to cancel the order or reinitiate payment.
Once the terminal is connected to the internet, you can cancel the payment or order:
- Before scanning or making the payment
- When the screen display "Payment failed" after scanning or making the payment.
Tap Cancel payment and it will display a "Confirm to Cancel" prompt, then tap Cancel payment. If you are using Alipay (CN) and have not made the payment, it will display a "Confirm to Cancel" prompt, then tap OK.
1. Cancel payment
- Cancelling a payment (normal orders, preorders, and exchange orders above 0 HKD):
- Canceling order before payment (Alipay CN):
Since the orders made with Alipay (CN) are created after payment, there will be no "Cancel Order" option before payment. - Canceling a payment (Preorder pay-off)
Only supports cancelling the payment. It will delete the pay-off transactions once cancelled. You can pay off again in the "Orders" tab. - Canceling a payment for orders with failed payments:
Once the payment is cancelled successfully, you can go to the "Orders" tab to cancel the order.
2. Cancel orders
- Cancelling an order:
If you choose to cancel an order, you can also edit the operator and cancel reason, and decide whether to revert credits and member points to the customer.
*Notes:
- When cancelling the preorder pay-off, you can only tap Cancel payment. It will delete the pay-off transaction and you have to go to the "Orders" tab to create a new pay-off.
- Since the orders made with Alipay (CN) are created after the merchants scan the customer's code, there will be no order record before the customers make the payment. You can only tap Cancel payment.
6. Change payment methods when reinitiating the payment (Android version)
If payment errors occur, you can reinitiate the payment and change the payment method.
Step 1
On the payment error page, tap Reinitiate payment, and a confirmation window will pop up. Tap OK to reinitiate payment.
Step 2
On the reinitiating payment page, you can delete the original payment option and select another payment method (including SHOPLINE Payments POS and other payment methods, such as cash and gift cards). If you would like to pay by the original method, tap Reinitate payment directly. Please pay attention to the following limitation when changing the payment method:
- Unable to change the shopping cart content.
- Unable to change the operating staff.
- Unable to change the order type. E.g., if the order is a normal order, you are unable to change it into a preorder when changing the payment method.
Step 3

- 1 SHOPLINE Payments option+ 1 ~ 4 general payment options (5 payment options in total)
- 1 ~ 5 general payment options (5 payment options in total)
Please pay attention to the following notes when editing.
1. Notes on editing the amount payable for SHOPLINE Payments options

- The amount payable cannot be greater than the failed payment amount (as change is not available).

2. Notes on editing the amount payable for general payment options
- The amount cannot be less than 0 HKD, except for return orders and exchange orders whose amount is less than 0 HKD.
- The edited amount can be greater than the failed payment amount (as change is available).
After adding new payment options and all amounts are confirmed, tap Reinitiate payment.
7. Settlement (Global Payments terminal)
*Note: Only the Global Payments terminal requires settlement.
After the terminal is settled, the terminal provider will process the payments and transfer the funds into the merchant's bank account within the appointed time. Global Payments recommends merchants settle their terminals once a day.
*Note: Octopus orders are settled automatically. Merchants don't need to settle them on terminals.
Step 1
Go to the Terminal Settlement tab on the POS app. If a red dot appears on the tab, it means that there is a payment to be settled.
Step 2
Select the terminal to be settled, then tap Settlement. *Note: If several iPad devices are connected to one terminal, you need to settle them individually to ensure every payment on the device is synchronized with the terminal. For example, if you have 3 iPads connected to terminal A and every iPad has SHOPLINE Payments POS orders, you need to tap Settlement on all three iPads.
It will take a while to complete terminal settlement, please wait patiently. You will be unable to use the terminal for the moment. *Note: Please keep the terminal connected to the network and do not leave the page to avoid settlement errors.
Once the terminal is connected, tap SETTLE at the bottom right and then tap SETTLEMENT. Once the terminal finishes sending data, it will display "Settlement Success" and print out the settlement receipt.
Step 3
After the settlement is complete, the POS app will display "Settled successfully."
*Note: If the settlement fails or experiences a timeout, please tap Settlement to retry. There is no upper limit to reinitiate the settlement.
8. Notes
- When using the card payment terminal, please keep it connected to the network; otherwise, the checkout will fail.
- If you have a set payment fee, the system will automatically calculate it on the checkout page. (Similar to the Alipay payment in Step 3)
- If your POS app has not yet been updated to iOS v1.50.0/Android v1.28.0 or above, you will not be able to access transactions with multi-payment options. Please update your POS app first.
