Create a Google Play developer account to publish apps under your brand's name. Not only will it enhance brand ownership, but it also increases organic downloads and visibility of your app (store) and helps your website get better SEO rankings and do better ASO. 

 

This article will cover how to create the following two types of accounts:

*Note: When applying for an account, there are differences in the information required for "institutional accounts" and "personal accounts." The former can instill more trust in customers, so it is recommended to choose to apply for an "institutional account."

 

1. Institutional account

Step 1. Log into the website

Log into your account via this website. If you don't have a Google account, please go to this page to sign up for a new one.


Step 2. Choose the account type

Select An organization and click on Get started ➜.

Step 3. Tell Play Console about your organization

Select A company or business as your organization type and fill in the remainder of the fields based on the information of your company's actual situation. Upon completion, click Next to proceed.

*Note: If you are using a "personal Gmail Account" instead of a corporate email account, the system will display a reminder that you're using a personal Google Account. Simply click Dismiss to continue.

Step 4. Tell Play Console about you

If you have no experience using Play Console and Android, you can fill in "No experience" in the input box; however, if you have relevant experience, you can fill in the items listed accordingly.

Step 5. Complete Developer account details

🔔 Tips:

  • Developer account name: Your company name.
  • Contact name: The applicant's name
  • Contact email address: If you don't have a company email address, you can use the applicant's personal email address (upon entering the personal email, a reminder will appear, simply ignore it). After filling it out, click "Verify email address" for email verification.
  • Preferred language: Choose a language that suits your preferences.
  • Contact phone number: You must provide a contact phone number that can receive text messages or calls. Upon filling it out, click "Verify phone number" for phone verification. You can select from the drop-down menu whether to receive a text message (Send me a text message) or a phone call (Call me) to receive a 6-digit verification code.

Step 6. Complete Apps details

🔔 Tips:

  • Number of apps: Choose 1 or 2-5 from the drop-down menu
  • Earning money on Google Play: No
  • App categories: None of the above

Upon completion, click Next to proceed with the application.

Step 7. Agree to the terms

Check both boxes of the terms and conditions and then click the Create account and pay button.

Step 8. Complete the purchase

Next, the system will display a "Complete your purchase" pop up. Click on + Add credit or debit card.

Enter your payment information. Notice that all fields are mandatory. Upon completion, click Save card. Once the payment goes through, your account creation will be deemed successful.

*Note: The registration fee for creating a Google Developer account is US$25, and it is a one-off payment, with no additional charges required.

 

After the registration is done, you may go to the Google Play Console page to see if you need to complete identity verification. Click on the option button indicated below to verify your identity. Once your ID is successfully checked, you can proceed to publish your app.

2. Personal account

Step 1. Log into the website

The link to log into the Google Play Console website is the same as shown in Step 1 of 1. Institutional account.

 

Step 2. Choose the account type

Select Yourself and click on Get started ➜.

Step 3. Tell Play Console about you

🔔 Tips:

  • Your Play Console and Android experience: If you have no experience using Play Console and Android, fill in "No experience" in the input box. If you have relevant experience, you can fill in the information as listed.
  • Other Google Accounts: If you haven't used any other Google Accounts to access Play Console, check No. Otherwise, check Yes.
  • Website: Your official website link

Upon completion, click Next to continue.

Step 4. Complete Developer account details

🔔 Tips:

  • Developer account name: Your company name.

Step 6. Agree to the terms

Check the instructions in Step 7 of 1. Institutional account, where you'll be required to check both boxes of the terms and conditions given and then click on Create account and pay

 

Step 7. Complete the purchase

Check the instructions in Step 8 of 1. Institutional account, where you'll be required to fill in relevant payment info and then click on Add card to proceed with the subsequent process and publish your app.
