As a merchant, you might need to charge taxes on your sales, and then report and remit those taxes to your government. Although tax laws and regulations are complex and can change often, you can set up "Taxes settings" SHOPLINE provided to automatically handle most common sales tax calculations.

In this section:

 

A.How to Setup Tax Settings on admin

General region tax setting

Step 1: Go to "Setting" > "Taxes Settings"

Step 2: Click "Add Region" and select tax area. 

Examples of setting Australia taxes:

You can use "Command + F" to search tax area.

Step 3: Click "Edit" and start to setup Australia taxes

First, you can setup tax name. if the tax name is black, system will show it as "GST".

You can turn on "Automatically calculate tax rates" toggle so that the system will automatically grab the latest consumer tax.

You also specify whether you will charge freight taxes on shipping.

Please press "Update" after you edit settings

"Changes saved" will display on the top right corner after updating successfully.

The tax area you setup will display on listing page.

US / Canadian taxes

United States and Canada taxes rate will according to different states, regions and cities, so the setting steps will be different from the general regions.

Examples of setting United States taxes:

Step 1: Go to "Settings" > "Taxes Settings" > Click "Add Region" and select United States

Step 2:Click "Edit" and start to setup United States taxes

Step 3:If you need to charge tax within the United States, then taxes might apply in the county, municipality, and state. Please press "Add" button to add excise duty applicable state.

After selecting applicable states, please click "OK" on the bottom right corner.

To handle this complexity, you can use SHOPLINE's automatic tax settings. These settings include default sales tax and the rates are updated regularly.

Please note:
If you only need to add specific state, please do not turn on the automatically calculate tax rates. Or all state country/country/city will apply tax automatically.

If the new tax in a district, the district tax rate will replace the whole territory.

步驟四:If you need to charge taxes on shipping, please enter the taxes rate.

Please press "Update" to save your setting.

All /Partial Products need Tax Collection

  • If only partial products need to charge tax, please do not turn on "All Shops need Tax Collection" toggle.

          Please go to "Product & Categories" > My Products > Edit > "Quantity & Pricing" Tab to turn on "Charge customers additional consumption tax" toggle.

  • If All products need to charge tax, Please turn on "All Shops need Tax Collection" toggle.

           When you turn on toggle, you will see a popup:

             After enabling this function, ALL shops need tax collection. When you create new product,"Charge customers additional consumption tax" field on product edit page will display default value "Applied to all"mceclip7.png

 

 

 

B.How taxes display and calculate on storefront

Examples of setting Australia taxes(Sale Tax 10%,Freight Tax 10%)

When the customer selects Australia as shipping destination, the order summary will calculate the tax fee.

C.How tax display on admin

D.Note

  • You should always check with a local tax authority or a tax accountant to make sure that you charge your customers the correct sales tax rates, and to make sure you file and remit the taxes correctly.
  • SHOPLINE doesn’t file or remit your sales taxes for you.
  • 若您的商品需向顧客收取銷售稅,建議您在購物說明或商品描述中優先註明收稅規則,以確保顧客結帳前了解相關資訊。
