To set up a discount promotion on selected categories, you can choose "Selected Categories" in "Set Benefit Type" section.

If you want to exclude specific products from category-level promotion, you can click "Select exclude product" to setup. (Coming Soon)

  • the number of excluded products is limited to 200 items per promotion.
  • if the selected exclude products are not belong to selected categories, system will display these products in grey to remind you of deleting them from the list.

*Please be noted:

  • When you have set up a discount promotion on selected categories, all products in those categories would be eligible for the promotion. You no longer need to add products one by one to the promotion.
  • If you want to setup product newly added to selected categories as an exclude product in the category-level promotion, you need to manually add them to "exclude products" in the category-level promotion setting.

B. How to apply the category promotion in the order

When you add the products eligible for the category promotion to cart, you can see the discount promotion applies to the cart right away.
Using the example as above, the grey sweater gets 10% off in this order.

For further example of excluding products from category, let's explain with different promotion cases in the following table:
If there are grey sweater x1 , red sweater x1, white sweater x1 in customer's cart, how would the cart apply "Sweater" Promotion excluding "white sweater"

  • Promotion (1)
No condition, Sweater get 10% off (Exclude white sweater)
    • Customer checkout grey sweater & red sweater with 10% off and white sweater with original price.
  • Promotion (2)
Sweater get 10% off When Sweater over 3 items (Exclude white sweater)
    • Customer checkout without promotion because grey sweater + red sweater are not over 3 items.
  • Promotion (3)
Sweater get 10% off When total order over 3 items (Sweater: Exclude white sweater)
    • Customer checkout with promotion because total order (grey sweater + red sweater +white sweater) is over 3 items but only grey sweater & red sweater get 10% off.

C. FAQs

Question (a):

If a product has been added into the "Discount promotion on selected products", can I create a category promotion for which category that product belongs to?

Answer:

Yes you can!
You can set up a "Product Promotion" & "Category Promotion" for the same products at the same time.
Or you can set up multiple category promotions as well.
BUT, please be noted that you can whitelist the same products into ONE product promotion only.

Question (b):

If we have set up two "Category Promotions", which promotion customers would be able to use/apply in the cart?

Answer:

Apply priority: Earlier Start Date of Valid Period --> Earlier Create Date of Promotion
Let's explain with the example below.

Promotion (1)
10% off Discount on Sweater category
Valid Period: 1/1/2018 - 1/2/2018
Promotion created on: 1/1/2018

Promotion (2)
20% off Discount on Sweater category
Valid Period:14/1/2018 - 1/2/2018
Promotion created on: 14/12/2017

If the sweater has been added into both category promotions, only ONE discount promotion would be applied in the order.

The earlier the promotion starts/is valid from, the promotion would be applied in the order, which means promotion (1) in this example will apply first and the sweater would get 10% off.

If the validity of the two category promotion is the same, the earlier the promotion is created, the promotion will be auto applied in the order.

Question (c):

If the product is eligible for both "Discount promotion on selected products" & "Discount promotion on selected categories", which promotion customers would be able to use/apply in the cart?

Answer:

If the promotion has been added into both "product discount promotion" & "category discount promotion", only ONE discount promotion would be applied in the order.
System will automatically apply the "product promotion" in the order.

If you have set up promotions for large amount of products, you can consider using Category Promotion instead. Easier and fast to finish the setup of the promotion!

Question (d):

If the product is eligible for both "Discount promotion on selected products" & "Discount promotion on selected categories", the former one is an auto-applied promotion and the latter one is a "Coupon Promotion", which promotion customers would be able to use/apply in the cart?

Answer:

Again, if the promotion has been added into both "product discount promotion" & "category discount promotion", only ONE discount promotion would be applied in the order.

System will automatically apply the "product promotion" in the order FIRST. Then if customer use the Coupon, the auto-applied promotion will be replaced by the Coupon Promotion.

Question(e):

If the product is eligible for both "Discount promotion on selected categories" & "Free shipping promotion on selected products", which promotion customers would be able to use/apply in the cart?

Answer:

If the promotion has been added into both"Discount promotion on selected categories" & "Free shipping promotion on selected products", BOTH promotion could be applied in the order.

The priority of the promotion applies to products/order will be:

( Discount promotion on selected products > Discount promotion on selected categories )—>
Order level discount promotion —>
( Order Level free shipping promotion > Free shipping promotion on selected products )

Question(f):

If merchant has set two promotions for the same categories, both promotions are auto-applied ones while they are not the type of category promotion; former one is Discount promotion on selected category and the latter one is Free Gift promotion on selected category, can we apply both promotions in an order?
