This article describes:

1. Set up sub categories
2. Bulk assign products to sub categories
3. Bulk assign products to sub categories from product page
4. Third layer categories

Remarks

Since main category and sub category share a subordinate relationship, when there is a product added into sub-category, the product would be automatically assigned into the corresponding main-category as well. Take an example below:

Original Categories

A Category has product A + product B + product C
B Category has product D + product E + product F

Setting up the category hierarchy

Set A Category as main category
Set B Category as sub category

The order of products in both categories will be:

A (Main) category: product A + product B + product C + product D + product E + product F
B (Sub) category: product D + product E + product F

When unassign a sub-category, the products will be go back to the original order as below:

A Category has product A + product B + product C
B Category has product D + product E + product F

4. Third layer categories [only for advanced plan and above.]

Merchant may use this feature when the storefront theme setting is Ultra Chic. And before setting, please go to 「Apps > Apps Store」to install 3-layer product (for Ultra Chic).

Please be reminded that switching into other themes other than Ultra Chic will hidden the layouts of the third layer categories in storefront.

Example

(Layouts of the categories with the same setting in admin panel for theme Basic)

(Layouts of the categories with the same setting in admin panel for theme Ultra Chic)

While setting "Parenting" as first layer and "Diapers" as second layer, the third layer categories may have different layouts among different themes. We currently support the layout of third layer categories in theme Ultrachic only. When switching the themes that are not supporting the third layer layouts, settings in admin panel will remain and be shown again while the theme switched to those are supported.
